Demian's Thoughts: |
While reading this book, I did realize that I owe a lot of my appreciation of Lone Wolf to nostalgia. While I still give the series plenty of credit for its fun system and its story continuity, I think that I would find its shallow characters and silly location names a lot less thrilling if not for the fact that I know they were created by Joe Dever. I guess I still cannot claim to be unbiased. That being said, this was yet another fun adventure. It's highly replayable since the first choice leads to two different story branches that allow wildly different events to be experienced during the first half of the story. After that, it's time for some reunions and daring deeds leading up to a gigantic cliffhanger. Of course, it could have benefit from better characterization (I dare you to tell two Lone Wolf characters apart) and some elaboration (much of the adventure feels a little bit rushed), but it's Lone Wolf. It's hard not to enjoy it, flaws and all. |
juski's Thoughts: |
The following review was written in 1987 when I was a teenager and published in issue 1 of Orcs Breath, a gaming fanzine that I created and wrote. Lone Wolf 10: The Dungeons of Torgar Author: Joe Dever Lone Wolf’s quest continues. In this book you must enter the city of Torgar, in which the Archlord Gnagg holds the remaining three lorestones that you seek. On your way you may join in a battle (there is a nice map showing the force deployment of each side with one of the references) or be more subtle and join up with an outlaw, who will lead you through Hellswamp. Then you must storm the evil city and enter its dungeon, where you find a friend who played a large part in the Danarg. Finally, there is an exciting climax, not unlike that of Blood Sword 3: The Demon’s Claw. The plot is very good and is more enjoyable than the previous Lone Wolf adventures, although these have also been good. The cover illustration is brilliant and those inside are also of a good standard. Plot originality: 68% |
