|User Summary:||In this sequel to Pillars of Pentegarn, you and Pentegarn are charged with practicing magic without a license. As a result, you must travel to Rainbow Castle and face three evil wizards.|
This is a pretty good entry in the series, with interesting puzzles, traps, and creatures.
This is the only sequel in the series, as far as I know, and the only returning character (other than Conan, Tarzan, etc.).
You again play Jaimie, the protagonist from Pillars of Pentegarn. It doesn't live up to the first one. (Interestingly, I noticed they never mention your gender, always calling you Pentegarn's grandCHILD, although the artwork shows you as male).
Let's see; take the words "revenge" and "dragons." You are heading for a pretty cool title. How can we wimp it up? I know, "rainbows."
Seriously, this book unfortunately doesn't include the other characters who made Pillars fun: Baltek the warrior, Lydia the rogue and the Wizard Pentegarn (who is in the book, but missing for the whole story). It sticks you with the annoying animal sidekicks Owl and Fox.
The plot involves some silly evil wizards. A tall one, a fat one and a short one. It has three main paths, all boring, even the one where you wind up in limbo.
The artwork takes a downturn. It does convey the dark atmosphere as in Pillars, but it is much more primitive than previous books.
Overall, probably the worst of the first six books, unfortunately.
Good read. Rose returns to form. This book is the direct sequel to Pillars of Pentagarn and you play the same character, Jaimie, now apprenticed to Pentagarn himself. Your old pals Fox and Owl are back as well. The choices generally point you along the path the author wants you take. There is one major choice early on -- stay in the castle or be transported to "Limbo." There are some interesting occurrences in the dungeon of the castle however. Because of the disparate outcomes from this initial choice, replayability is high.
Has a very different flavor and feel to it, which some may like, and others not.
Writing is good, characterization is better than usual in Endless Quest due to this being a sequel book, but the author does tend to push you along the path. All in all, good book though.
