These books use the format initiated in Enid Blyton's Famous 5 Adventure Games to adapt the adventures of R. Goscinny's comic book character Asterix the Gaul in his battles against the Romans. The books are written in the third person and come in plastic sleeves full of extra equipment. The equipment varies from book to book, but it includes a custom six-sided die, maps, a variety of cards (including translations of words used in the text and sketches of various characters, among other things), a "password scroll" plastic overlay used to reveal phrases hidden in jumbles of letters, and cardboard wheels used to keep track of potion measures and gold remaining. As with other gamebooks that include such extras, these are a challenge to collect.
