These fantasy gamebooks were originally designed to take place in the world of the Cursed Empire role-playing game and use a simplified version of the RPG's "Spartan's Unleashed Game System." The first book was briefly available in paperback and eBook formats before being pulled off the market due to a licensing issue. The first book was later reissued in a larger format with a different setting and game system, and the remaining adventures retained this format.

The game system used in the revised version of the series uses six-sided dice for randomization. Players have two attributes (Physical and Mental) along with Life Points and a variety of skills. Character generation is accomplished through a combination of dice-rolling and point allocation. All action resolution is achieved by cross referencing a skill or attribute against an opposed skill or difficulty level in a special table -- this yields the target number that must be beaten to succeed. Combat uses this table to determine who hits each round and then uses the difference between an attack score and a defense score to determine damage dealt.
