Demian's Thoughts: After a long succession of books ranging from plot-light to plot-free, it's good to see an adventure with a real, coherent storyline. In fact, Foley has really gone the extra mile here, providing not one, but two distinct, coherent storylines in one book. It's refreshing once in a while to read a book by an author who does more than simply write random events and glue them together with choices. Unfortunately, though, the fact that the stories used here are well thought-out doesn't make them especially good. The crime story lacks originality and scope, and the fantasy/adventure story is too silly for its own good and also lacking in the originality department. This is a well-made book but not a terribly enjoyable one. It's better than average for the series, but it's not Foley's best, and the reader is likely to forget it soon after reading it.
