| R-Alex-J's Thoughts: |
Good story. It's not a mission to save the whole world, just to save someone's father. Good. We have enough apocalypses already; let's just have a personal touch! It has a good twist on the Knights and Knaves puzzle, where one person is lying but the other is telling the truth. The twist makes it easier provided that you pay attention! The lost souls part refers to the castle holding people prisoner even after they have died. As a character says, the whole castle is a cell. It appears to be in Harkuna's Underworld. That means that there's a twist on the resurrection deal concept. If the deal relies on bringing your soul back to a material body, but you died in a castle trapping souls, the deal will work differently than usual. On other matters, such as getting the first items in the town, your character could get the items peacefully or criminally. Fabled Lands doesn't have alignment, as the authors said elsewhere, so it makes sense that your character may not care about the law. As long as you can take the consequences of your actions, break the law as much as you like! The other thing is that this book allows readers to go into the other Fabled Lands books and come back later. After reading carefully, I believe that leaving is best suited for lower-Rank characters. The default character in this book has Rank 4, but someone starting from Cities of Gold and Glory could start at Rank 2. It would be very advisable for that character to go away and improve their stats before going for the rest of this book. I expect that Rank 4 and higher could get through this quest in one go. The authors promise that you can do this quest without reading the other FL books, so I think Rank 4 is the first Rank where you could definitely win. (I hope that made sense! To put it another way, Ranks 1-3 could take the chance to improve themselves elsewhere before completing the quest, I trust that Rank 4-6 could win but could still go away for a while, and Rank 7 onwards could complete it without leaving). Anyway, I trust that FL books 8-12 books will be finished soon. |
