R-Alex-J's Thoughts: |
Good sequel to Deathtrap Dungeon and prequel to Trial of Champions. The artwork is up to the standard of classic Fighting Fantasy. Since the Dungeon of Despair is a competitor of Deathtrap Dungeon, many things are the same. Like Sukumvit, Carnuss has put in opportunities and traps. He has recruited his own Dragonmasters to do the work of Trialmasters. At the same time, the other competitors fit in very well. In Deathtrap Dungeon, the competitors are their own characters who appear naturally in the adventure. In Trial of Champions, they tend to just appear and seem less sociable. Here, the other competitors have their own agendas beyond getting through the Dungeon of Despair, putting it mildly. If this book is the standard set for future FF work, then I'd say that the series is in good hands. That was Ian Livingstone, what has Steve Jackson got planned? |
