R-Alex-J's Thoughts: |
You're the Goblin here. Goblins are normally the villains in fantasy books, so we have a good change straight away. There is a slight Mesoamerican theme in the artwork, but there are also several things that would fit into European-style fantasy art too. The architecture and specific pieces of art in some scenes appear Aztec to me, but a view of a town looks very European, as do the fashion in some scenes. I assume that the local area is multicultural! The unique selling point of Usborne's books is the puzzles in my opinion. Some puzzles are easy, such as identifying a map reference. Others need you to spot a pattern. One puzzle involving tree rot hiding a number took me 3 days to work out. This puzzle wasn't critical to the success of the book, so I continued without solving it, but I kept going back even after going further into the adventure. Meanwhile, enjoy working out who doesn't rely on weapons while having uncovered ears and how many things are needed to work out a sequence. My family introduced me to Fighting Fantasy so that I could learn numeracy and literacy at an early age. I believe that The Goblin's Revenge and the other Usborne Adventure Gamebooks will be just as helpful in teaching maths and critical thinking. |
