Not to be confused with the other Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure Gamebooks, these small hardcover volumes are aimed at younger readers. Each book consists of full-color two-page spreads featuring visual puzzles (reminiscent of the Which Way? series); the reader's ability to solve each puzzle determines which page is visited next. The individual books do not have separate titles -- they are simply numbered.

While most Ladybird books are indeed in the small hardcover format, such as Steeleye and the Lost Magic, I believe this Sonic the Hedgehog series was only ever published in a larger paperback format.

The relatively obscure Ladybird "Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure Gamebooks" are hardly considered "gamebooks" by most accounts; the elementary target audience and gameplay system best render them as "picture puzzle books" with a slightly-more-interactive-than-average approach. There's a real historic curiosity to the creation of these tie-ins - not to be confused with the "other Sonic the Hedgehog series of the same name" released at the same time - but the intrinsic value of these works pretty much stop there; it's a very short-lived kind of fun that knows from the beginning it can only serve as a way to pass time for a few minutes at most, without any substantial literary or interactive value extending beyond its unambitious original intentions. With the exception of Sonic memorabilia collectors, most readers could pass on these and miss very little; the short length, low replay value and lack of ability to justify its own existence mean that these single-note works fall flat in the way typical of much of the unnecessary tie-in merchandise that's out there.
