Shadeheart's Thoughts: |
[Rating: 1/10] Perhaps more accurately described as "puzzle picture books", the Ladybird Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure Gamebooks - not to be confused with the other series of the same name released at the same time - are among the many historically unusual tie-in materials that popped up briefly during Sega's peak era of widespread commercial success. This title, however, is only really interesting as precisely what it is: an off-key picture book with directive instructions for readers (along the lines of "count this many of X" to proceed/have a happy ending/receive further directions), accompanied by two-page illustrations reminiscent of the series' early official art. With low value as an investment (apart from its status as a sort of historic relic), there's nothing whatsoever about this volume to recommend - it's a short-lived satisfaction that has little lasting charm or literary worth by anyone's standards. As such, it's a pretty easy title to pass on without regrets... though hardcore Sonic memorabilia collectors, of course, aren't going to miss this pseudo-interactive tie-in. ^^ (Mysteriously disappears into the shadows.) |
