Alien Adventures

This series is one of several released by Troll in 1985. The other series, which all have the same basic format as this one (including the subtitle The Choice is Yours), are Fantastic Adventures, Forgotten Forest, and Solve It Yourself. All of these books deal with encounters with creatures from space, as the series title suggests... I can only hope that the name of the author of the series is a pseudonym.

 Cosmic Kidnappers
Author: E. T. Randall
Illustrator: Jackie Rogers
First Published: 1985
ISBN: 0-8167-0329-9
Length: 116 pages
Number of Endings: 36
Library of Congress Summary: Drawn into a computer and out again into an alien spaceship, the reader must figure out a way to get back home.
My Thoughts: This book really isn't a whole lot of fun... It doesn't work as a game because crucial background elements of the plot change depending on certain choices and it doesn't work as a story because it's derivative and uninterestingly written.

 Target: Earth
Author: E. T. Randall
Illustrator: Jackie Rogers
First Published: 1985
ISBN: 0-8167-0327-2
Length: 116 pages
Number of Endings: 36
Library of Congress Summary: Alone on a secluded lake, the reader encounters alien construction workers at work on an anti-gravity building site. The reader's choices determine the outcome of the plot.
My Thoughts: Like Cosmic Kidnappers, this doesn't work too well as either a game or a book.

 Thieves from Space
Author: E. T. Randall
Illustrator: Jackie Rogers
First Published: 1985
ISBN: 0-8167-0331-0
Length: 118 pages
Number of Endings: 34
Library of Congress Summary:The reader may choose the direction of the plot as aliens from outer space arrive on Earth, purportedly to warn of a terrible disaster.
Translation: Spanish
My Thoughts: This is a fairly typical book for the series; there are a lot of totally unrelated plots which pop up randomly depending on how choices are made. The Library of Congress summary is particularly bad for this book since the plot line it mentions has little to do with most of the others; the majority of paths through the book create stories dealing with aliens stealing Earth's metal.

 Town in Terror
Author: E. T. Randall
Illustrator: Jackie Rogers
First Published: 1985
ISBN: 0-8167-0333-7
Length: 116 pages
Number of Endings: 37
Library of Congress Summary: On a class trip to Earth from outer space, a group of aliens turn a town upside down with their antics. As one of the townspeople, the reader makes choices about the outcome of the plot.
Translation: Spanish
My Thoughts: This book is slightly better than the others in the series simply because it's considerably weirder. This still doesn't make it particularly good, though...
