This series is a fairly faithful adaptation of the video game of the same name, which is better known to English-speaking audiences as Dragon Warrior. As in the electronic version, the player moves around a world map (which, in the paper version, takes up quite a bit of space), randomly fighting monsters and gaining experience. There are also dungeons to explore and map and towns where items can be purchased and rest can be found. Players must keep track of hit points, attack strength, defensive ability, magic points and gold in addition to their equipment and experience.
