These books, based on classic horror novels, allow the reader an interesting choice: to play either the monster or its nemesis. In the first book, the choice is between Dracula or Jonathan Harker, and in the second, it is between Frankenstein and his creation. Regardless of which character is chosen, players start with one hundred life points and roll dice to determine scores for five fairly typical attributes. Two of these attributes (Speed and Courage) are used in combat to determine whether a hit is scored while two others (Strength and Skill) determine how much damage is done. The final attribute, Psi, determines how many times special mental powers may be used during an adventure. Players must also keep track of money and inventory items during play. Because each book essentially contains two different adventures, the paragraphs of each book are split into two distinct sections: a "Location" section and an "Action" section. All of the choices and events of the stories are found in the Action section, but some of these paragraphs refer back to the Location section, which contains room descriptions shared between the two stories.
