This stand-alone book casts the reader as an advisor helping to rebuild a medieval village destroyed by storms. The book is not the familiar "read the section, choose, turn the page" style of gamebook. Instead, it is a linear series of chapters. Each chapter is a fictional narrative laced with historical sidebars. At the end of each chapter, the reader chooses from a list of items that might help the village. Some items have prerequisites and must be built in a particular order. The items chosen, combined with die rolls, determine how several scores (Effort, Supplies and Defense) fluctuate during the course of play. The story can end prematurely if Supplies run out.
