(Review based on the Spanish translation.) I'm unfamiliar with the popular children's series this book is based on, but judging from the content here it seems to be pretty standard fantasy fare. Nonetheless, I found the book quite entertaining. It manages to capture the feel of classic fantasy series such as Endless Quest or Dragontales (but with much shorter text sections). There is a wide variety of paths to victory, and much more substance than its low section count suggests. The choices are not that difficult if you are an experienced gamebook reader, but I nonetheless had fun restarting and trying new things every time. Overall, this is a very nice way of introducing a child to gamebooks, and it can also be good for an adult who needs a couple of hours of uncomplicated entertainment. Recommended. |
