User Summary: | You are Bobby Barbarian. When your friends are captured by the evil Venger, you must use all your courage to rescue them from the Tower of Midnight Dreams. |
Demian's Thoughts: |
This book suffers from all the flaws that the cartoon show did, being corny, predictable, and only very loosely related to the Dungeons & Dragons game. Still, considering the age group it's aimed at, it's not too bad. |
Guillermo's Thoughts: |
(Review based on the Spanish translation.) While the D&D cartoon show does indeed have its share of sentimentality and triteness, it also had a dark and gritty tone that made it decent watching (even if, as Demian mentions, it lacked the feel of the original game). Unfortunately, under the pretext of making the book accessible for children the author made it less dark while leaving all the corniness in. You are Bobby the barbarian, and your friends tease you all the time because you are the youngest member of the group. One day you must rescue them from Venger's grasp and prove that age doesn't matter. With two successful endings and many obvious choices, this will not prove much of a challenge to a seasoned gamebook reader. For what it's worth, the book is entertainingly written and can be a decent read for a young child, but adults will not find much to like here. |
