drereichdude's Thoughts:

Seeing this book in a local Mr. Paperback came as a suprise to me, as I did not expect there to be any other gamebooks published in the 2000's, other than the CYOA reissues, of course.

But it was a pleasant surprise! And this book ties in perfectly with the 3-D action-adventure movie starring Brendan Fraser. It was really quite wordy, but that increased the level of immersion immensely. Which is always good!

Also, this book has endings which, similar to the Choose Your Own Star Wars Adventure books, differ from the actual movie. And to make it more kid-friendly, there are no really bad endings. I just thought that was fairly unusual, comparing it to some of the rather violent endings contained in the CYOA books.

As for the movie, I have to say I enjoyed it, but I saw it in a non-3D theatre. It was still good. I had always liked the classic story by the great Jules Verne.

Anyway, it seems as if this book might be stand-alone, the only one in its series. That's not necessarily a bad thing, though, and I do hope that maybe there will be more 21st Century gamebooks to come!
