Item - A Day with the Dinosaurs

This is a pretty weak entry in the series, being both largely plotless and full of errors (from mixing dinosaur time periods to using the wrong form of the word "its" on page 39). There are some interesting points, though. First of all, travel to the age of dinosaurs is accomplished through an encounter with the Cave of Time, an interesting cross-series reference to the first Choose Your Own Adventure book. Also, in what is almost certainly a coincidence, the book's paleontologist shares his name with one of Doctor Who's most distinguished script writers.

Perhaps it is a general fondness and warmth of recollection for all books that reference the legendary Cave of Time, but I have always very much enjoyed this book. None of the storylines feel particularly long, and some pathways can feel a bit fragmented apart from the rest of what happens, but I nonetheless read this one as often as I do any entry in the series, and the variances in the array of choices are frequent and do well to keep my interest. The longer storylines allow the reader to more extensively explore in the dinosaur world, and the surprises that await those who are lucky enough to return to their own time unscathed are not to be missed.
