I was a bit wary to try this one, due to my less than stellar experience with Fairie Mound of Dragonkind and the cheesy title. However, I would have missed out.
This one feels a lot less like a random item collection and more of an actual story. It retains the same format as Fairie but the passages are much meatier, often lasting for several paragraphs, which means less random page flipping. In fact, the amount of work that must have gone into this story is quite impressive.
The story feels fresh. You are a former paladin but you are awakened from death as an undead by an evil lich. He gives you an evil mission but you still retain some freewill and fight to save your city from his undead invasion.
It takes much better advantage of the format, and the choice of character is more interesting. You select one of two paladins to start and as the adventure progresses you recall different bits of memory passages as you try to piece together how you died and fell in thrall to the evil wizard. As there are two characters, your backstory can be very different with quite a few twists and turns. Kind of a fantasy Memento.
|Errata:||On the third bookmark, the reference "12:00 midnight: Turn to section 120A" is incorrect. The author believes that it should instead point to 85A, though this has not been verified.|
