Demian's Thoughts: |
This is definitely an above-average entry in the series. There are a variety of paths and some of them are quite long and satisfying. There's also a section in which you are asked to memorize a map. While it ultimately doesn't really serve a purpose, the idea is an interesting one. |
Guillermo's Thoughts: |
(Review based on the Spanish translation.) I would definitely call this book a classic. A large part of it is a quest with a clear goal to accomplish, which is not that common in books of this complexity level. Granted, a lot of the difficulty resides in entirely random decisions (do you push the blue button or the red button?), as well as a riddle which I found rather easy, but Lynn Beach manages to make this an enjoyable read nonetheless. The book also includes a few choices based on reader traits such as sleeping habits or skill with tools. You will eventually have to cheat at these if you want to experience the entire adventure, but they are still more fun than many of the ways R. L. Stine devised in order to introduce variation into his books. The book has its share of pointlessly short paths with silly endings, but overall it is a fun ride. |
tonylachief's Thoughts: |
This book has an interesting science fiction premise with a main villain (Dr. Lamprey) who would remind you of one of the Bond antagonists from the '60s. Lynn Beach does a good job of building up the suspense in the storylines and there are some delightfully bizarre endings. For example, one ending is in an altogether different dimension wherein you realize you've stumbled onto a filmset and the evil Dr. Lamprey is merely the Director. Rating: 6.5/10.0 |
