Kveto's Thoughts: |
My second and most likely last foray into the Tunnels and Trolls modules. In this one, you go to the Blue Frog Tavern, where you are hired by a rock demon named Quartz to accompany him to explore the area beneath his tavern. I don't actually play the Tunnels and Trolls system and without that, there is little to do here. The passages are very short and mostly about combat. Lots of backtracking and encountering the same rooms over and over again. Quartz is your unfunny comic relief. As in City of Terrors, the irreverent humor, while necessary to distinguish it from D&D, only makes the adventure seem very jokey, giving you no chance to get invested. In general, I find short passages have the same effect. The artwork is much more professional than in City of Terrors. There is one very odd encounter. Depending on whether you are male or female, you meet a wizard of the opposite sex who invites you for a tea. You are then memory wiped of whatever happens next. If female, you emerge dressed in black leather gear with a whip. If male you emerge nude with the wizardess's name tattooed across your butt cheeks. Hmm. |
