I'm biased in favor of this book as it was my very first gamebook. In one path of the book, your character remains a human; you are turned into a monster in the other. An ending is creatively reused for both paths which seemed a little too clever considering this was possibly written by Mr. Stine. Unfortunately, this book suffers the same flaws as many of the entries of the rest of this series. Interesting ideas aren't developed enough and there is internal inconsistency. Some of the plot elements are just silly. This could almost be redeemed if the writing was good and if more of the ideas were interesting, but they are not. It is, in my opinion, above average for this series but that's not saying much. |

This book was a bit more entertaining than most of the others in the series, but that may just be the result of a personal leaning towards cheesy adventure stories set in the jungle. In most respects, it's really just average. |
