Dtar's Thoughts: |
I found myself amazed at the details of German sabotage in the USA during its time of neutrality in WWI. I also find that to be an odd sort of neutrality, given the amount of arms and aid that were being sent from the USA to the allies and wish that issue had been touched upon, if not in the historical background section then at least by a character in the story. Something about this story is hard to relate to; conducting sabotage in your adopted home in favor of your country of birth. |
Kveto's Thoughts: |
One of the spin-off series for the You Choose historical adventures, a series about spies seems a good topic for a gamebook. Like the parent series, you are offered three characters to choose from: a German spy in America, a female Belgian spy, or a British spy in Russia. Unless I'm bonkers, I found a big flaw in the German spy path, in which the first choice leads to two end paths. Of the other two, the Russian adventure is probably the most interesting as it is set among the Russian revolution. In general, the format here works against itself, as the paths are short, so you often restart to try other paths and it is difficult to keep in mind which side you are on, particularly with double and triple agent choices. |
