Item - Keep of the Ancient King

This book covers the same territory the last two did. The battle between Gregor and Nightshade would probably be a lot more interesting if the reader actually played Gregor rather than being a different tag-along in each book. In fact, even being the same tag-along would be an improvement.... Playing a different uninteresting role in each book is rather frustrating. Once again, though, my gripe is with the continuity and not this book specifically; by itself, this is as good as the last two books in the series.

You play a young village girl named Amy who follows the good knight, Gregor, against the evil skeleton wizard, Nightshade, which is basically the plot of the previous book, Shadowcastle and the next book, Dungeon of Darkness. Only this time you are trying to save your horse, instead of a friend.

It really seems odd of the author to write almost the exact same story again, with only slight variations. Interestingly, the story seems to reward theft and dishonesty.

I guess the most interesting thing is how each book has radically different interior artwork. The art in this book resembles the highly detailed yet stiff artwork of Gustave Dore, at least to me.
