Dtar's Thoughts: |
I like the way that both choices in the book lead the character, who is lost in a store, to talk to a store employee. I wish that the story could somehow have tried to teach the lesson of not getting lost in the first place... but that's something the parent will have to add. |
KenJenningsJeopardy74's Thoughts: |
I love this book! Author Marcia Leonard has taken all of the wonderful creativity inherent in the regular Choose Your Own Adventure series and tailored it to an audience scarcely older than toddlers. Little Panda Gets Lost has only one decision for the reader (or listener, as is likely the case for this book) to make, and it's right at the beginning of the story. That one decision branches off into two mini adventures for the reader, who is pretending he or she is a young panda bear who has lost its mother in the store. Both paths eventually lead to the same happy ending. The liftable flaps in this book are a nice feature, and do well to enhance the story. Overall, illustrator Karen Schmidt has created excellent drawings with an old-fashioned charm to them that fit perfectly with the writing of Marcia Leonard. Few books for as young of children as are catered to in Little Panda Gets Lost are as effectively interactive or will instigate thinking among pre-reader kids the way this book does. I highly recommend it. |
