I felt that the book does a good job of making the history real for the reader by letting them choose to live as a person in ancient Greece. The choices are limited by the constraints of the realities of the time (example: the helots of Sparta had no chance for advancement, and all choices that the reader makes demonstrate that) but I think that is actually a very effective tool for learning. |
