Dtar's Thoughts:

I felt that the book does a good job of making the history real for the reader by letting them choose to live as a person in ancient Greece. The choices are limited by the constraints of the realities of the time (example: the helots of Sparta had no chance for advancement, and all choices that the reader makes demonstrate that) but I think that is actually a very effective tool for learning.

Kveto's Thoughts:

A good educational entry for this series, with a lot of artwork and history packed into a small book.

It has two main paths: life in Athens or life in Sparta. Each of these is further divided into militaristic or more peaceful paths. For example in Athens you have the options of being a doctor, a sculptor, politician, philosopher, etc., while in Sparta you are given options of classes, such as soldier, freedman or slave. It does a fair job of showing the advantages and limits of the societies.

Of course, there are a number of historical personages to meet along the way, such as Pericles, Socrates, etc.
