Demian's Thoughts: |
While you won't find any earth-shattering surprises here, this is a fun exploration of a reasonably familiar genre, made a bit more vibrant through the colorful illustrations and comic-book sequences. There's not a whole lot in the way of plot or internal consistency, but if you want some spooky goings-on in an Egyptian pyramid, it delivers the basics and has some fun endings. I might not have enjoyed this quite as much on my own, but I ended up reading it with my five-year-old son (at his request -- he loves mummies and comic books) and we didn't stop until we had mapped out every path in the book (though we had to take a breather in the middle when it got just a little too scary). He's now eager to find more from this series, and hopefully I'll be able to track some down before too long! |
