Guillermo's Thoughts: |
Like other entries in the series, this book is made up of extremely short adventures which are pretty insubstantial, except perhaps for very young children. The book lacks the epic feel of Pinocchio´s Adventures, but it still contains a couple of unusually involving storylines which managed to grab my interest. Still, this is a long way from a masterpiece such as The Genie in the Bottle in the Skylark CYOA series. |
Kveto's Thoughts: |
This series appears to revisit some of the classic Disney fairy tales in a short format for young readers with the book clocking in around 42 pages with Disney quality illustrations. The series feels a bit odd in that you don't play Snow White or any of the main story characters. Instead, you play an unnamed character, shown in the artwork as a young, blonde boy, who basically inserts himself into the classical story of Snow White. It is odd because it feels to be an odd retcon as I imagine most reading the book would already be familiar with the film. It does add other elements from the enchanted forest but it feels like meta-knowledge (e.g. knowing not to trust the old witch with apples) would make the choices feel odd. Overall, it feels odd. To me the fun would either be playing Snow White herself and exploring other options, or going on a completely new adventure after the events of the films. This hybridization is hard to get into, but maybe the idea was to keep familiar elements while inserting yourself (if you are a boy) into the tale. |
