Guillermo's Thoughts: |
(Heavy spoilers ahead.) A legend suggests that when Spanish conquistadors first arrived to what is today Mexico City, then-emperor Montezuma hid his fabulous cache of wealth so that the invaders would not be able to find it. In spite of these claims, no confirmed trace of the supposed treasure has ever been found anywhere. The author exploits this legend to create an adventure that, while not as rich in historical detail as a Time Machine or You Choose gamebook, is at least quite entertaining to read. The book is notable for at least having a somewhat coherent narrative, which is something several titles in this series lack. While in a typical Choose Your Own Adventure book there would be at least one ending where the reader actually finds the treasure, there is no "successful" ending here. This may be off-putting to some people but I liked the fact that the book mirrors real life by maintaining the mystery intact. |
