Choose Your Own Adventure (1979-1998)
Cherry, Eric (interior)
|Number of Endings:||9|
|User Summary:||You go to Japan with your best friend Chuck and your sensei Mr. Yamamoto to study the ancient art of Kendo, which is fencing using bamboo sticks. While there, Mr. Yamamoto disappears and you have to find him.|
This is the seventh and final book in the "Master of" series. By this point the series is starting to lag a bit. Maybe it's because the format of the CYOA books has changed; the size of the book is bigger, there is lower quality art, and fewer endings. In other terms it feels like a "regular book" and not the classic, smaller editions as the rest of the CYOA books.
The story has the potential to be better than average, and there are a few storylines that manage to do that well. You do get to fight using your martial arts skills learned from the previous books, and you learn Kendo. By reading the whole book you find that Mr. Yamamoto was kidnapped because he hid an ancient sword from a legendary Japanese warrior.
Since this is the last book of the series, I will recap my thoughts on the whole series here. Overall since I like reading books that are part of a series, I found the "Master of" series to be satisfying. I now have an interest in the Martial Arts, and I feel that Mr. Brightfield has done a great job at depicting both the Martial Arts and the foreign countries.
Furthermore, to recap the places you travel in the books:
