|User Summary:||Amy, a shy, lonely girl, gets a necklace for her twelfth birthday which allows her to become invisible.|
This book is pretty similar to the last one; the premise is overly familiar, the writing is fairly uninspired, and there's an unfortunate lack of quirkiness to the whole thing. I did find it more enjoyable than the previous book, though; although Amy's character and her struggles are both stereotyped and exaggerated, it was nonetheless nice to have a little bit of character development intertwined with the more fantastic elements of the adventure. If a bit more effort had been made to be original, this could have been pretty good; as it is, it's just another average, unremarkable gamebook.
|Waluigi Freak 99's Thoughts:||
I generally express distaste for the whole "character thinks that their life is miserable" style of writing. I'm usually one to get emotionally attached to what I'm reading, no matter what it is, so the exaggerated Amy pity party in the beginning pretty much set me in a depressed mood.
Aside from that, this book has some substantial content that works just well enough to end with an "okay" feeling. The different plot threads were all interesting and everything, but not too interesting. The fact that most of the characters weren't that likeable really weighted this book down and kept it from what it could've been. It's all right, but not ground breaking.
