Demian's Thoughts: |
Calling this a Genevieve novel is a bit of a stretch -- the vampire has little more than a cameo appearance in the story, which is carried instead by a fairly diverse cast of aristocrats, investigators and victims. As always, Newman provides an engaging read, transferring the tropes of the gory, sexually-charged psychothriller to the fantasy world of Warhammer with more credibility than one might think possible. In spite of skillful handling, it's still a bit of a stretch, and the whole package is not quite as satisfying as most of Newman's other work. That doesn't mean it's not fun to read, and completists who seek it out won't be too disappointed. |
