Item - The Mad Mage's Academy

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. For starters, it has a much darker and grittier atmosphere than many of the earlier Endless Quest books. Matt Forbeck shows that the Forgotten Realms can be a very unforgiving setting full of betrayal and deceit; this is a nice change of pace relative to the epic tone of classic entries in the series. I also liked that completing the mission requires more social interaction than combat (as is the case in Midnight Rogue), or stealth (as in Escape from Castle Quarras). There are several different ways to achieve a successful outcome, which makes it fun to read the book over and over. All in all, this is a very good book. While it's a shame that at the time of this writing there seem to be no plans to release further Endless Quest entries, it can be said that the current iteration ends on a high note.
