Dtar's Thoughts:

This book brings a lot of technology to the story, with training exercises for the infantry and artillery that give interesting information about the rifles and cannons of the age and how they were used. Also noteworthy is that the motivations of the soldiers are explored to a certain extent, with Confederates expressing their preference for states rights over laws imposed by the federal government. The cavalry engagements are much more wide ranging than the infantry and artillery ones, which are fixed in one particular battle. The cavalry engagements provide a good variety of locations and missions, which provides a needed break from the limited nature of those of the infantry and artillery.
