Around the time that these gamebooks came out, TSR had acquired the rights to the classic science fiction magazine of the same name, and a television series based on the magazine was on television. The gamebooks were designed to cash in on both of these things. The books are as thick as some of TSR's more complex releases like the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Adventure Gamebooks, but they feature no game systems and have extremely long stretches of text (often dozens of pages) between choices. The stories told in the series are along the lines of those published in the magazine: pulpish adventure, horror and sci-fi tales. One title, the fourth in the series, is actually an interactive revision of a previously-published linear novel. For the most part, storytelling takes precedence over gameplay in all of the books, though some offer more meaningful decisions than others.
