These gamebooks by Lone Wolf creator Joe Dever take a highly visual approach, and the series actually consists of two distinct sets of two books each. Each book features a brief solitaire game, but the majority of the space in each set is devoted to a two-player duel in which each player takes one of the books and battles the other by calling out numbers, cross-referencing on tables and turning pages. The first two books, which are reminiscent of a more complex version of the Lost Worlds Fantasy Combat Books, feature a solitaire game in which the reader wanders a maze searching for treasure and a two-player game in which a pair of warriors battle in a maze similar to that found in the solo game. The second pair of books are more similar to Ace of Aces, allowing the reader to take control of a fantasy flying machine, either hunting down an adversary in the two-player game or exploring the world and collecting magical items in the solitaire game. All of the books are played without the use of dice or random numbers.
