These books started life as tie-ins to TSR's espionage role-playing game, Top Secret, which also inspired titles in the Catacombs Solo Quest and Endless Quest series. However, not long before being released, the Top Secret connection was broken and the series was re-themed as a tie-in to the Sniper! board game. The books have an action/espionage flavor, and most feature stories contemporary to their release dates, though the fifth title is set during World War II. All but the third adventure include gratuitous non-fiction essays. The books use a variant of the standard format and game system found in most advanced TSR gamebooks of the eighties, though there are no tear-out bookmark character sheets to be found here.
