This series of interactive comic books allows the reader to control the actions of Mr. Buckethead, a superhero with a bucket for a head who also happens to be the star of some low-budget video productions. In the books, Mr. Buckethead collects Fun Points, Action Points, Major Victory Points, money, equipment and friends, and the reader must keep track of these things. Fun Points serve as hit points, requiring Mr. Buckethead to go on vacation (at the cost of some money) whenever they run out; Major Victory Points indicate the completion of missions (and only one may be earned in each volume); Action Points may be spent to perform special actions (which vary from book to book); and the rest are self-explanatory. Action Points are handled by an unusual mechanic in which the reader flips ahead a given number of sections and looks for an icon. If an icon matching the power that he or she is trying to use is there, the action is successful; if not, it fails; either way, a point is spent. The books actually have no endings, so gameplay lasts indefinitely, and it is possible to move from book to book from the first section of each volume. Although not as complex as the multi-book format of the Fabled Lands series, this does offer greater-than-usual flexibility. Further diversity comes from the inclusion of numerous puzzles and mini-games in each book, including the Monster Fight Game, a multi-player battle game which resembles a greatly simplified version of the Lost Worlds Fantasy Combat Books.
