Guillermo's Thoughts: |
The author of this short adventure has become one of very few people still writing commercial gamebooks today. It's clear that his intention here was to attract newcomers to the gamebook form, though one may argue against his choice of genre. Indeed, the adventure is very Lord of the Rings-like. This is weird – and probably not very fortunate – because from what can be inferred, the publisher specializes in gaming material that caters to tastes different from Tolkienesque fantasy. Regarding its actual quality, the adventure has little to offer to the experienced gamebook reader. It consists mostly of randomly generated fights, and while the choices being offered make sense in terms of strategy, they are not particularly clever. The adventure is not too hard and a character with high stats will find it to be a cakewalk. All in all, an unremarkable solo that seems like a poor imitation of Treason at Helm's Deep (but without the cool subplots). If you fancy a free online adventure that is short and elaborate, Ring of Thieves and Lair of the Troglodytes are both better ways to spend your time. If you insist, the url is: |
