Jordashebasics's Thoughts: |
Wow, this one was much better than I expected. I haven't cared for many of the mid-east adventures in the CYOA line, and I've never had a particular interest the Arabian Nights or Aladdin in general. But this was good. I suspect it's better if you have more knowledge of the stories it probably refers to. There are a few things that feel very strange, particularly a bit where a woman is part cucumber, and that never gets addressed. But for a story that involves lots of different steps, it doesn't come across as rushed as many of these books. I'd probably put this at the lower end of the upper tier. |
yunakitty's Thoughts: |
This is a very good book. The choices make sense logically many times (for instance, do something dishonest, get a bad ending; stand up for someone, get a good ending) so that you feel a sense of accomplishment when you make the right choice. Of course it's always fun to go back and make the wrong choice too, just to see what happens! The story branches out into several interesting paths. I found the one with the goat man especially creepy and entertaining. This is one of those books though, where in the first choice, one of the choices you make leads immediately, with no more choices, to endings. I find that a little disappointing, because basically to get to 90% of the story you have to make that one choice at the beginning that doesn't lead right away to endings. I think the first choice should always be to direct you into two completely different directions, and then down each path there is about 50% of the story possibilities, and they may even link back up if the author is crafty enough. Anyway, it's a good read. |
