Item - The Champ of TV Wrestling

This is not a high point in the series. A combat oriented book isn't too interesting without a combat system, and there are enough bad puns to cause severe internal bleeding.

While what Demian said about the bad puns is true, and the action doesn't work as well as it should, what I thought was strange about this book was how easily the reader loses track of his mission to dethrone Carl the Colossus. You can become a rock and roll superstar, you can become a football player, the host of a wrestling talkshow, a ringside announcer, even an actor, all of which have nothing to do with giving Carl the boot. Maybe "The Champ of TV Talkshows" didn't have quite the same punch. Despite its lack of direction it's not all that bad, especially compared to some of the nauseatingly boring sci-fi books in the series.

What can I say about The Champ of TV Wrestling? First off, this book in my opinion is by far the worst entry in the Which Way Books series. Bad writing, a boring subject matter and lame (not to mention easily forgotten) central goal. I've never been a wrestling fanatic, but even if you are, I suggest you avoid this book. Some of the lamest puns that can be found in a gamebook are found here in the pages of The Champ of TV Wrestling. So lame they just make you groan in annoyance. Seriously I felt like reading this book actually decreased my intelligence. As noted earlier, your main goal in the book, to defeat Carl the Colossus and take the championship belt from him, is so easy to get distracted from it's ridiculous. Couple that with the other lame options available to you (becoming a rockstar wrestler or a tv talk show host wrestler? Come on...) and it's agony to get through the pages.

By the time I finished this book I wished I could get back the half hour I'd wasted reading it. It's a rarity for me to find absolutely no redeeming qualities in a book, but The Champ of TV Wrestling managed to do it.
