Demian's Thoughts: |
This is definitely an above-average entry in the series. While the story is nothing special, the gameplay is quite challenging, requiring careful exploration and good luck to get through successfully. As a bonus, a solution to the first Give Yourself Goosebumps Special Edition adventure is included in the back of this book. |
Enigmatic Synergy's Thoughts: |
I thoroughly enjoyed this Give Yourself Goosebumps book. As mentioned in the review by Demian, the story and plot are both fairly simple. Yet here, simple equates to more (similar to the adage less is more). Also as mentioned, the atmosphere is indeed something special; the author's choice of words and descriptions in certain scenarios are almost reminiscent of something like the popular movie, The Shining, giving the book an added creepiness value that I admired while reading through the different strands. As in most Give Yourself Goosebumps books, there are two separate storylines for the reader to follow. While that is somewhat present here, I feel that there was little effort put forth to the second storyline; here, we seem to have (in my opinion, of course) one main storyline and almost something of a sub-storyline. I believe the author's intention was probably to focus on purely the one storyline, but nevertheless this is a great book and one that I highly recommend! |
Stockton's Thoughts: |
This is one of the best books in the series. It's one I often find myself returning to. The material seems to work better and the setting is more atmospheric than in other entries. Unlike in practically all the other books in the Give Yourself series, there's a clear objective to be reached (escaping from the hotel). In addition, there's also a backstory to be had and a reason for the hotel's being haunted, even if it's only minimal and laid out in a single (short) paragraph. This is a good book, and a pleasant change from the often trippy randomness of the rest of the series. |
