Florik's Thoughts: |
It is the eve of the assault on Castle Overkill. You're with the army, but assigned a special task: sneak into the castle and kill the sorcerer who rules it, to improve the troops' chances against his minions on the next day. Not a very original story, I'm afraid, and I felt the first pangs of disappointment right after the introduction. This is a Mike Stackpole adventure? I've come to expect better from him. Turns out there are a couple of strains to be experienced, all wildly different from each other. One path even includes teleportation to one of three different surroundings. Thus, your side may win the battle or lose the battle, you might even be late for the battle and thus accused of treachery by your General - or never find your way back to the battle site at all. So while there's a lot of variety, no matter which path you take, it will always be quite short. What's worse, the story (or rather, the stories) never really drew me in. With teleportation on top, the whole thing seems a jumble of disparate ideas, instead of one tale experienced from different angles and with different outcomes. |
