If you're looking for a true fantasy role-playing experience in gamebook format rather than dungeon combat, Golden Dust, Red Death will suit you. It presents a believable environment (the city of Gull) with a dilemma (drug smuggling) and a number of opposing factions: The authorities and the Thieves' Guild make unlikely allies in trying to fight the drug Denregh, while the two principal drug barons are bitter rivals. Once drawn into the story, you have several avenues to pursue: You can loyally serve one of the drug barons, become a dealer yourself or a Demregh addict. The choice is yours. While, once again, the optimal path through the gamebook is quite short and not all that hard to find, I found good replay value in this digital adventure, even if it's only based on a magazine adventure of the same name, dating back from 1979. In the Crown of Klade campaign, Golden Dust, Red Death starts a new series of events. Having escaped old enemies as a criminal on the run, you'll take on more heroic tasks in the city of Gull if this adventure is any indication. |
