User Summary: | Choose from the battles of Stalingrad, the Bulge and Okinawa. Within those battles you can choose (respectively): German infantry or Russian tank division, a couple different roles in the USA 101st Airborne Division, a US Navy fighter pilot flying either F6F Hellcat or F4U Corsair. |
Dtar's Thoughts: |
I think that the German infantry experience at Stalingrad and the USA airborne experience at the Bulge both did a good job of trying to give a sense of those very difficult circumstances. However, what I enjoyed most was the Navy fighter plane story. I think it did a good job of showing the kind of quick decisions that had to be made and the results that were likely. I particularly liked the fact that they included the incident where an F4U made a successful ramming attack on an enemy fighter when the machine guns had jammed. Using real events that happened to real people gives the book added meaning for most any reader. |
