Fireguard's Thoughts: |
Operation: Poison Dart was the first G. I. Joe gamebook I had the chance to read, causing me to wonder if it's a good idea to read the best book in the series first. The plot is actually fairly chilling for this kind of thing. When I read other books, I would usually think something such as, "Ho-hum, another death ray," but I felt a chill from learning COBRA planned to switch a mind control drug for kids' booster shots. Operation: Poison Dart is (for a Find Your Fate book) full of memorable lines and situations, and has a protagonist with a very interesting specialty. The choices are also different, especially the first one which I don't want to spoil for you. Suffice it to say, the choices and their consequences often are as psychological to the characters as any book starring a hypnotist thwarting a mind control plot ought to be. When I first picked this book up I thought this kind of thing would be the norm for the series, but some twelve other books and the roles of far too many "strategy specialists" later I came to appreciate the effort it takes to break the mold sometimes. If you want to read any G. I. Joe book, please, do yourself a favor and make it this one. 8/10 |
