Jordashebasics's Thoughts: |
After being pleased with Eighth Grade Witch, I had high hopes for this one. They can get away with some very dark endings. Unfortunately, this book is as tame as many of the other CYOA titles. It's reasonably well written, there's a Montgomery-esque "maybe we're the invasive species" ending, and there's a decent sense of mystery. Specifically, it isn't clear what the antagonist's plan is. But once we find out what the plan is, most respect for the book goes out the window. It's a completely ridiculous plan, not fitting with the tone of the rest of the book. On the upside, I wound up doing more research on Burmese pythons as a result. It's hard to tell if the author did. I'm not sure if this is worthwhile - or even if it's scary. I don't know how scary it is for people who are scared of snakes, but they don't seem especially menacing. |
