In this management game, you are trying to grow your land and population without starving too many
people. For the best possible outcome, you should own more than 10 acres per person and allow less
than 3% of your people to starve.
Important notes:
- 1 bushel of food plants 2 acres.
- 1 person can tend 10 planted acres.
- It takes 20 bushels to feed one person each year.
This game has a long history -- for more information, see the
Wikipedia article. It was first implemented in FOCAL
by Richard Merrill. It was later translated into BASIC by
David H.
Ahl and published in
BASIC Computer Games (New York, Workman 1978). This Javascript adaptation
of the BASIC translation uses the
MooTools framework and was written by
Demian Katz with the author's permission.
This program was converted primarily to help with the development of the input() method of my
BASIC.IO class.
