Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Coloring Album

This book, which was released in 1979 by Troubador Press under license from TSR, is a coloring book containing a simple Advanced Dungeons & Dragons-inspired mini-game suitable for solitaire play or for up to four players. The upper two thirds of each page tell part of a linear story corresponding with the pictures to be colored. The bottom third of each page contains part of the mini-game. The center of the book portrays a dungeon map with numbered rooms. The reader simply proceeds through the maze, turning to entries corresponding with numbered rooms and resolving the encounters that take place in them. After each encounter, dice are rolled to see if the treasure that signals victory has been found.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Coloring Album
Author: Gary Gygax
Illustrator: Greg Irons
First Published: 1979
ISBN: 0-89844-009-2
Length: 32 pages
Number of Endings: The book has no formal endings, but the game is over either when the party is wiped out or the victory condition is met.
Plot Summary: A party of adventurers wanders through a dungeon searching for the Holy Talisman of St. Cuthbert.
My Thoughts: This is a pretty pointless book, really; you wander around fighting familiar AD&D foes by rolling 2d6 over and over, and eventually you find the treasure and it's over. There's no plot, next to no strategy, no sense of discovery (since the whole map is laid out from the beginning), and a few ambiguous rules. I guess I had a little bit of fun along the way, but there just isn't much to this game. A good round of the classic Dungeon board game would be a much more satisfying way to spend the evening if you're in the mood for this sort of thing.
My High Score: 75 (may my poor wizard rest in peace)
